VIT University, Vellore (Tamil Nadu), one of India’s best-known private universities, on Sunday announced that it has created a new record in campus recruitment with IT and Consulting major Cognizant handing out job offers to 1643 students of the 2011 batch out of 2238 students that appeared for the selection process.
“This is a significant milestone in the history of the University, especially because all the students who have been made job offers are from a single campus”, said VIT Chancellor Mr. G. Viswanathan. “Cognizant has a long-standing relationship with VIT University and this is a proud moment for both of us,” the Chancellor added. The students who received job offers from Cognizant were from all branches of B.Tech., M.Tech, MCA, MS(Software Engineering) and MSc(CS).
“Now that Cognizant, one of India’s largest recruiters from campuses, has made such a high number of offers to students of the current batch, our campus placement season is off to a truly great start”, said the Chancellor, VIT University.
Earlier, at the inaugural of the campus placement season at VIT University, Mr. R. Chandrasekaran, President and Managing Director, Global Delivery, Cognizant, announced a new set of initiatives as part of Cognizant’s industry-academia collaboration program.
Mr. Chandrasekaran announced the institution of a new Cognizant–VIT Research Fellowship program that will be kicked off in 2011. VIT University and Cognizant will soon be signing a detailed MoU for the Fellowship Program after obtaining necessary approvals from both sides. “To start with, we will be handpicking four Research Scholars who will pursue their Fellowship/Research in Cognizant. At the end of their research program, based on the feedback from VIT Guides and Cognizant Co-Guides, VIT University will award a PhD degree to successful students,” he said.
He added that a Cognizant Innovation Lab will be inaugurated at VIT in the first quarter of 2011. The Innovation Lab will offer training to students in emerging areas of technology, including Open Source tools.
Mr. Chandrasekaran also announced that Cognizant Foundation, the company’s corporate social responsibility arm, will institute four scholarships for deserving and meritorious first year students of VIT. Beginning this academic season, each of the four selected students will be offered an annual scholarship of Rs.35,000 through their Graduation program.
Dr.G.Viswanathan, said that this year again, in compliance with NASSCOM’S guidelines, the large recruiters from the IT services industry have come for recruitment only in the last semester. VIT’s Placement Center have allowed core Engineering Companies and other software product companies that offered more than Rs.4.5 lakhs per annum to conduct the placement process at VIT between July 2010 and December 2010.
This year Software product companies and Consulting Companies like Amazon, Google, Cisco, eBay, Intel, HP(R&D),Commvault, McKinsey,NI, Schneider Electric, Deloitte, KlA Tencor, e –frontier, Misys, Alcatel – Lucent, Honeywell, Informatica, Capital IQ, Sapient that offered more than Rs.4.5 lakhs per annum have visited VIT for campus placements and made final and internship offers.
There has been a substantial increase in the number of core engineering companies visiting VIT this academic year. Reputed Core Companies like Ashok Leyland, TVS Motors, Sankalp,Tata Power, Reliance Power, Reliance Industries, Honda,ITC, Michelin, Telcon, MN Dastur,L&T, Murugappa, Philips,Sandvik, Schaeffler, Tata Technologies, Wheels India have recruited our students this year.
